Complications Associated with Vein Stripping

Reasons to avoid vein stripping for venous insufficiency include:

  1. Hematoma in the groin and along the tract of vein stripping in the thigh, leg and ankle.
  2. Infection in the groin incision or any other incisions in the thighs, legs and ankle.
  3. Significant bruising and pain following vein stripping which can last several weeks.
  4. Nerve injury or transaction injury. This can be quite disabling and debilitating.
  5. Deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

 

The preferred treatment as of this writing is EVLT and VNUS CLosure.
