OBAGI BLUE PEEL FAQ

The OBAGI BLUE PEEL is a patented procedure developed by Dr. Zein Obagi and is a multi-step application of blue dye solution mixed with TCA (Thrichloroacetic Acid). These applications (1st pass to 3rd or 4th passes) will lead to the removal of thin surface layers of aged and damaged skin. Layers of dead skin cells exfoliate and are replaced by healthier ones allowing the skin's own clarity and tightness to resurface.

Who Should Consider An Obagi Blue Peel?

Anyone (male or female) who is seeking facial rejuvenation and who desires to reverse the aging process. Those who have age related wrinkles, pigmentation problems such as from scarring or melasma, sun damage or general poor skin quality benefit from the Obagi Blue Peel.

Is the Obagi Blue Peel Different than peels offered by aestheticians on Groupon and Living Social ?

When the Obagi Blue Peel was patented, it represented a breakthrough in rejuvenation of the skin. Using a different medium as the acid base, namely TCA instead of glycolic acid, the Obagi Blue Peel enables the physician  or nurse to reliably control the peel process and its depth. The process is tailored to the nature of the problem to be corrected: wrinkles, scars, laxity or pigmentation problems.

Will The Obagi Blue Peel Cause More Pigmentation ?

No. Controlled passes of the dermis (2,3,or 4) by an experienced physician can help reduce pigmentation and help improve the texture of your skin with minimal risk. As a matter of fact, the lighter the color of your skin (Northern European versus Hispanic or Middle Eastern), the less likely the likelihood of hyperpigmentation with any type of aesthetic skin intervention (fractional laser, microdermabrasion or chemical peel).

How Long Does the Procedure Last ?

Tthe procedures takes 30 minutes. You can drive in yourself and drive home yourself.

How is the Obagi Blue Peel Performed ?

We do not use sedation as the Obagi Blue Peel is very tolerable with ibuprofen taken 30 minutes before the procedure. Very rarely, xanax or valium is prescribed to be taken 1 hour before the procedure if the patient has an anxiety disordder.

A mild burning sensation is experienced which lasts several minutes and which is lessened with fanning. The TCA and Blue Peel is subsequently washed off in the office and a soothing and patented creme is applied thereafter to moisturize the skin.

A very light blue hue remains in the skin (smurfy) and this lasts for approximately 12 hours. Patients go home and some do go out to dinner the same evening.

When does peeling start and end ?

The Obagi Peel starts the peeling process by day 3 and ends by 7-10 days.  The whole idea is to peel and there is no such thing as getting a medical peel and desiring not to peel. The Obagi Blue Peel is a very effective physican administerd medical peel.

Can The Obagi Blue Peel Procedure Be Used To Threat Other Parts Of The Body?

The Obagi Blue Peel is administered in the neck, face, chest, back, arms, hands, legs and so on. It works very well for the upper chest and base of the neck in women who have sun damage.
